The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore has come up with a design to make your wifi 1,000 times stronger. A research team from IISc has made grapheme transistor that consumes less power and does not heat up quickly in comparison with Silicone that is generally used to make a transistor. This allows for high speed signal that is capable of reaching upto Terra Hertz capability. Speaking on this Professor Mayanka Shrivastava said that it would be a game changer in the field with far-fetched implications in the real world scenario. It does not facilitate faster social media browsing but also helps in catching criminals and terrorists with the THz radiation having the potential to scan the body of a person discreetly and remotely from plastic explosives and metallic objectives.
The THz speed has more to do than just faster communication. Hereafter the communication in space missions like data sent and received like the ones to Mars will not take months any more, it will be possible within a few hours. The introduction of graphene transistors can leave a wireless communication speed of 1,000 times faster than 4G and 5G technologies. This is the kind of speed required for satellite communication. The future of Wifi Bangalore can only be changed embracing the new technology putting an end to slow and poor wifi signals.
The technology is expected to give a new lease of life to the slow moving Wifi connectivity in India. Though, there are certain hurdles that need to be overcome to kick start mass production of graphene transistors. The researchers at IISc are however, confident of make it possible by 2022. The IISc researchers can take pride in their discovery as it has already set a record across the globe leaving IBM research center in the US behind.
